Peugeot 308: Painting : Front and rear bumpers

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

CAUTION : If carrying out paintwork touch-ups on the front or rear bumper, do not apply any additional mastic or coloured base coat to the area of the front or rear angle radars . Only a coat of varnish is permitted in this area.

CAUTION : The front or rear bumper must not be covered with advertising stickers in the area of the front or rear angle radars.

CAUTION : If replacing the front or rear bumper, always adjust the front or rear angle radars .

1. Vehicle fitted with rear angle radarsOr front and rear

N.B. : Symmetrical operation.

To ensure correct operation of the rear angle radar (1), there must not be too much paint in the area on the "to be painted" type rear bumper(at "a").

N.B. : Symmetrical operation.

To ensure correct operation of the front corner radar (2), the "to be painted"-type front bumper must be covered but without overloading the area with paint(at "b").

2. Painting

2.1. New panels

The new front and rear bumpers are prepared to be covered directly with finish paint.

The front and rear bumpers are primed and ready to paint.

2.2. Repairing painted bumpers

If repairing the bumpers, do not apply any additional repair mastic or coloured base coat to the area(at " a" and "b") . Only a coat of varnish is permitted in this area.

2.3. Preparation

Refer to the appropriate method in accordance with the paint supplier.

2.4. Two-coat paints : colour base

Apply 1 to 3 coloured base coats depending on the coverage of the supplier’s paint.

2.5. Two-coat paints : Varnish

CAUTION : Avoid overloading and runs when apply finishing products.

First case :Rear bumper :

• Varnish HS(high solid) : Apply a single coat of varnish to the area (at "a") around the rear angle radar (1)
• Standard varnish : Apply 2 thin coats of varnish to the area (at "a") around the rear angle radar (1)

Second case :Front bumper :

• Varnish HS(high solid) : Apply a single coat of varnish to the area (at "b") of the front angle radar (2)
• Standard varnish : Apply 2 light coats of varnish to the area (at "b") of the front angle radar (2)

2.6. Paintwork touch-ups on the painted bumpers

First case :Rear bumper.

There must be no repairs or coloured base coats on the rear bumper in the area (at "a") around the rear angle radar (1) . A thin layer of varnish is allowed in the area (at "a") around the rear angle radar (1).

Second case :Front bumper.

There must be no repairs or coloured base coats on the front bumper in the area (at "b") of the front angle radar (2) . A thin coat of varnish is permitted in the area (at "b") of the front angle radar (2).

3. Faults causing a malfunction of the front and rear angle radars

Faults :

• Paint or varnish runs
• A coloured base coat that is too thick
• Too much varnish

4. Check and adjustment of the front and rear angle radars
