Peugeot 308 2021-2024 (P5) Service Manual / Mechanical :: Engine / Air and fuel supply / Check : Fuel high pressure supply circuit (Petrol engine )

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

ESSENTIAL : All personnel carrying out work on a vehicle fitted with traction batteries must have received specific electric vehicle training and be authorised to work on these vehicles (observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

CAUTION : After any adjustment : Carry out a seal check on the high pressure fuel circuit.

1. Tooling

N.B. : The pressure gauge [1529] and the corresponding adaptor can be used in place of the pressure gauge indicated.

Workshop equipment :

  • Leak detector
  • Diagnostic tool

Tool Reference Description

[1604-ZZ] Fuel pressure checking and adjustment kit
[4073-TAZ][1604-A][EN-34730-91] pressure gauge

[1604-ZZ] Fuel pressure checking and adjustment kit
[1604-B][4218-T][CH-52268] Fuel pressure take-off union
(*) Use standard workshop equipment if the special tool is not available

2. Preliminary operations

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations specific to (THP) petrol direct injection engines .

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required prior to a disconnection of the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Disconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries.

Remove the engine cover .

Clean the fuel supply pipe unions on the fuel high pressure common injection rail .

CAUTION : When disconnecting the fuel supply pipe , use a cloth to protect yourself from any fuel splashes.

Uncouple the fuel supply pipe (at "a").

3. Check : Assembly with fuel supply pipe

CAUTION : When connecting tool [1604-B / 4218-T / CH-52268], [1604-A / 4073-TAZ / EN-34730-91] protect yourself with a rag, to prevent any fuel spraying out.

Couple tool [1604-B / 4218-T / CH-52268] onto tool [1604-A / EN-34730-91].

Connect tool [1604-B / 4218-T / CH-52268] to the fuel supply pipe and to the high-pressure fuel common rail (at "c" and "b").

N.B. : Obtain a receptacle to recover the fuel.

4. Checking for leaks

4.1. Phase 1

Degrease and dry the areas to be checked.

Spray the leak detector product on the high pressure fuel unions (at "e").

Spray the leak detector product on the fuel high pressure common injection rail (at "d").

Spray the leak detector product on the fuel high pressure sensor (at "f").

Allow the product to dry.

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required after reconnecting the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Reconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries.

Switch on the ignition to pressurise the high pressure fuel common injection rail to 5 bars (Pressure equivalent to the low pressure supply pressure).

Check that there are no leaks (at "d", "e", "f") (The presence of a leak will clear or change the colour of the revealer).

Switch off the ignition.

4.2. Phase 2

Switch on the ignition.

Check the low pressure fuel supply circuit ; The value read on the pressure gauge [1604-A / 4073-TAZ / EN-34730-91] should not be below 4,5 bars and should not drop for 45 seconds.

Switch off the ignition.

If the result does not correspond to the values indicated, search for the origin of the leak and replace the faulty part(s).

Repeat the sealing check until the circuit is sealed.

4.3. Continued (Assembly with fuel supply pipe)

CAUTION : When disconnecting the tools [1604-B / 4218-T / CH-52268], [1604-A / 4073-TAZ / EN-34730-91] protect yourself with a cloth to prevent any fuel splashes.

Remove the tools [1604-B / 4218-T / CH-52268], [1604-A / 4073-TAZ / EN-34730-91] ; Obtain a receptacle to recover the fuel.

Connect the fuel supply pipe (at "a").

4.4. Phase 3

Start the engine and run it at idle.

Switch off the engine.

Check that there are no fuel leaks.

Start the engine again.

Acceleration with no load (Foot at the floor up to 4000 rpm).

Switch off the engine.

Check that there are no fuel leaks.

Refit the engine cover .

Delete the fault codes ; Using the diagnostic tool.
