Whatever its design, an ancillaries battery is subject to slow discharge while on stock, this owing to the following phenomena :
Regular recharging of the ancillaries battery will keep its charge intact.
A voltage lower than the nominal voltage (around 12 Volts) corresponds to a critical level of discharge which can lead to the ancillaries battery suffering damage.
The handing over to the customer of a new vehicle fitted with an ancillaries battery that has been stored with its voltage lower than the nominal voltage often engenders problems that spell dissatisfaction to the Customer and cost to the Marque.
Check the state of charge of the ancillaries battery while it is on stock, when destocking and also during the New Vehicle Preparation (PDI), so as to prevent it from reaching the critical level of discharge.
1. Tooling
CAUTION : Only "E-XTEQ / MIDTRONICS" testers or testers/chargers with a diagnostic function are approved by the PSA Group.
N.B. : Only a battery tester can diagnose the general condition of the ancillaries battery, the tester diagnosing not only the state of charge of the ancillaries battery, but also its ability to be recharged.
N.B. : The Marque requires you to use the "E-XTEQ" battery tester, allowing you either to obtain reimbursement for the recharging, or to replace the ancillaries battery via the SAGAI application
.
CAUTION : Certain commercial battery testers that are not approved technically cannot deliver a reliable diagnosis if the check is performed remotely.
Tool | Description | Supplier | Reference |
| "E-XTEQ (DS ONE)" battery tester (*) | E-XTEQ | [CB-12123] |
| battery tester (*) | MIDTRONICS | [EXP-925][EXP-925E] |
N.B. : (*) : 3 months after the deployment of the "E-XTEQ" battery tester in the country, it is mandatory to use it during New Vehicle Preparation (NVP) ; "MIDTRONICS" codes/tickets will no longer be accepted as proof under warranty.
N.B. : Use of a voltmeter duly calibrated is tolerated in exceptional circumstances. A voltmeter only enables you to measure the ancillaries battery voltage. The voltmeter does not give you traceability of the checking of the ancillaries battery (Not covered by the warranty).
2. Check of the ancillaries battery state of charge 2
CAUTION : All connection operations must be carried out with the ignition off and while the vehicle is dormant.
2.1. Definitions of the ancillaries battery charge status thresholds
Value displayed by the tester | Action |
BATTERY OK | None |
Battery requires charging | Recharge the ancillaries battery in accordance with the instructions given below |
Battery must be replaced | Replace the ancillaries battery in accordance with the instructions given below |
2.2. Installation of the ancillaries battery 2
(1) Ancillaries battery 1.
(2) Ancillaries battery 2.
2.3. Check of the ancillaries battery 2
Open the central armrest (In "d").
Remove the storage compartment base trim (In "e").
Unclip the ancillaries battery 2 flap cover (In "f").
Checking the ancillaries battery 2 using a battery tester :
Clip the ancillaries battery 2 flap cover back on (In "f").
Refit the storage compartment base trim (In "e").
Close the central armrest .
3. Charging of ancillaries battery 2
Refer to the method : Check - Recharged : Ancillaries battery (Depending on vehicle).
4. Replacement of ancillaries battery 2
ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations
.
CAUTION : After replacing or removing the ancillaries battery 2, carry out the operations below.
4.1. Check the replacement ancillaries battery 2
Check the specifications of the replacement ancillaries battery 2 :
4.2. Installing the replacement ancillaries battery 2
Install the new ancillaries battery 2 in its housing in the vehicle.
Connect the positive cable connector to the positive terminal on the battery.
Connect the negative cable connector to the negative terminal of the battery.
4.3. Check the compliance of the replacement ancillaries battery 2 connection
Move the cable about so as to check that the spade terminal connector is securely held on the ancillaries battery terminal.
4.4. Additional operation
CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required following a reconnection of the ancillaries battery
