Peugeot 308: Removing - refitting : Catalytic converter

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

ESSENTIAL : All personnel carrying out work on a vehicle fitted with traction batteries must have received specific electric vehicle training and be authorised to work on these vehicles (observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

CAUTION : For any operation on an oxygen sensor : Cleaning of the upstream and downstream oxygen sensor connector must be undertaken dry. The use of solvents or contact greases for cleaning the oxygen sensor connector is strictly prohibited.

1. Replacement of parts in all cases

Collar (Catalytic converter / Turbocharger) 1
Collar (Catalytic converter / Flexible exhaust hose) 1

2. Tooling

Tool Reference Description

[0193-B] (*) Removal pliers for exhaust collars
(*) Use standard workshop equipment if the special tool is not available

3. Preliminary operations

ESSENTIAL : Wait at least one hour before carrying out any work on the exhaust line.

Put the vehicle on a lift.

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required prior to a disconnection of the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Disconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries(depending on equipment).

Remove :

  • The under-engine protector
  • The deflector under the front bumper
  • The oxygen sensors

4. Removing

Remove :

  • The 7 bolts (1) (depending on equipment)
  • The heat shield (2)

Slacken the 2 unions (3) (depending on equipment).

Remove :

  • The exhaust clip (6) ; Using the tool [0193-B]
  • The nuts (4)
  • The nuts (5)

Remove :

  • The clip (8)
  • The catalytic converter (7) (from underneath the vehicle)

5. Refitting

N.B. : The clamp (8) can only be tightened and refitted once in the event of tightening or loosening.

CAUTION : Observe the tightening torques .

Refit :

  • The catalytic converter (7) (from underneath the vehicle)
  • The new seal (8) on the catalytic converter (7)

Position the catalytic converter (7) in the turbocompressor outlet.

Hand tighten the new seal (8) but not fully.

Refit :

  • The nuts (5)
  • The nuts (4)

Turn the seal (8) and align the edge of the first notch (in "b") with the heat shield (10) bracket (at "a").

Hold the clamp (8) in place while tightening the nut (9).

CAUTION : Risk of destroying the heat shield (10) support if the collar (8) is not correctly aligned.

Refit :

  • The new exhaust clip ‎(6) ; Using the tool [0193-B]
  • The 2 unions (3) (depending on equipment)
  • The heat shield (2)
  • The 7 bolts (1) (depending on equipment)

6. Additional operations

Refit :

  • The oxygen sensors
  • The deflector under the front bumper
  • The under-engine protector
  • The vehicle to its wheels

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required after reconnecting the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Reconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries (depending on equipment).
