Peugeot 308: Removing - refitting : Front brake disc

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

ESSENTIAL : All personnel carrying out work on a vehicle fitted with traction batteries must have received specific electric vehicle training and be authorised to work on these vehicles (observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

CAUTION : Always replace the brake pads if replacing the discs.

1. Replacement of parts in all cases

Description Quantity (Per side)
Bolt (Front brake caliper bracket) 2
Bolt (Front brake disc) 2

2. Tooling

Workshop equipment : Piston pushing tool.

3. Preliminary operations

Use the products recommended by the manufacturer .

CAUTION : If the brake fluid reservoir is at maximum level, remove its filter and partially drain the reservoir with the aid of a clean syringe in order to avoid it overflowing.

Put the vehicle on a lift.

Remove :

  • The front wheel bolts
  • The front wheels

4. Removing

CAUTION : Never separate the brake hose from its mounting at "a" : Risk of seriously damaging the brake hose.

CAUTION : Do not twist the brake hose .

CAUTION : Do not open the braking circuit on the brake caliper.

N.B. : The brake pads, on the wheel inner side, are clipped into the piston of the brake caliper (2).

Remove the bolts (1).

Move aside and suspend the brake caliper (2).

Remove the brake pads .

Remove :

  • The bolts (3)
  • The brake caliper (4) support (2)

Remove :

  • The 2 bolts (5)
  • The front brake disc (6)

5. Cleaning

ESSENTIAL : Do not use compressed air to clean the brakes.

5.1. First possibility

Clean the brake disc (6) and the brake caliper (2) using a recommended cleaning product.

Leave to drip dry.

Wipe with a paper towel :

  • The front brake disc (6)
  • The front brake caliper (2)

5.2. Second possibility

Use dust removal equipment approved by the manufacturer .

6. Check

CAUTION : No trace of grease, oil or lubricant can be tolerated on the brake pads.

Visually check :

  • The sealing around the brake caliper piston
  • The adjustment and condition of the protective gaiters
  • The wear of the brake discs
  • The wear of the brake pads

Replace any defective parts.

7. Refitting

CAUTION : Observe the tightening torques.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION DRIVE TRAIN OR MHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Tightening torques :

  • Braking system
  • Wheels

PHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Tightening torques :

  • Braking system
  • Wheels

ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN

Tightening torques :

  • Braking system
  • Wheels

Push the brake caliper piston fully back into its housing ; Using a piston pushing tool.

CAUTION : Place spacer between the tool and the brake pad to push the piston right back into its housing.

Check the brake fluid level.

CAUTION : The brake caliper bolts (1) are not always replaced with new bolts ; If the bolts (1) are reused, clean the thread and apply thread lock index "E3" .

Refit :

  • The front brake disc (6)
  • The 2 new bolts (5)
  • The brake caliper (4) support (2)
  • The new bolts (3)
  • The front brake pads
  • The front brake caliper (2)
  • The bolts (1)

8. Additional operations

Refit :

  • The front wheels
  • The front wheel bolts
  • The vehicle to its wheels

ESSENTIAL : With the engine running, press gently and progressively on the brake pedal several times before driving the vehicle.

Check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
