Peugeot 308: Removing - refitting : Brake lamp switch

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

ESSENTIAL : All personnel carrying out work on a vehicle fitted with traction batteries must have received specific electric vehicle training and be authorised to work on these vehicles(observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

N.B. : According to vehicle, there may be two types of brake switch assembly : Either a brake lamp switch assembly with manual adjustment, or a brake lamp switch assembly with automatic adjustment.

(1) Brake lamp switch .

"a" Locking key.

"b" Push rod support .

"c" Thrust pad .

1. Brake lamp switch (With manual adjustment )

1.1. Removing

CAUTION : Check that the brake pedal is in the rest position throughout the operation.

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required prior to a disconnection of the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Disconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries(depending on equipment).

Disconnect the connector of the brake lamp switch (1).

Rotate the brake lamp switch (1) a quarter turn to the left to unlock it.

Remove the brake lamp switch (1).

1.2. Refitting

CAUTION : Before refitting the brake lamp switch (1), press the brake pedal 10 times, to ensure that there is no vacuum reserve in the brake servo.

CAUTION : Check that the brake pedal is in the rest position throughout the operation.

Check that the push rod support "b" locking key "a" extends from the brake lamp switch (1) centring lug.

If this is so, the travel of the plunger support "b" within the brake lamp switch (1) is limited.

Place the brake switch (1) in its push bar bracket "c", pressing the brake pedal.

Press firmly on the brake lamp switch (1) in the centreline to set the piston "c" in the plunger support "b" until the base of the brake lamp switch (1) is in contact with its support.

Rotate the brake lamp switch (1) a good quarter turn to the right to lock it.

Reconnect the brake lamp switch (1) connector.

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required after reconnecting the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Reconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries(depending on equipment).

Switch on the ignition.

Check that the brake lamps come on.

1.3. Check the adjustment : Brake lamp switch (Brake pedal at rest )

Check the position of the plunger support "b" in the brake lamp switch (1).

The push bar bracket "b" should fit the body of the brake switch (1) and the push bar "c" should be in contact with the brake pedal.

CAUTION : The brake switch (1) should not act as a stop for the brake pedal.

1.4. Check the adjustment : Brake lamp switch (Brake pedal pressed down )

The push rod support "b" is free and the push rod "c" is no longer is contact with the brake pedal .

2. Brake lamp switch (With automatic adjustment )

2.1. Removing

CAUTION : Check that the brake pedal is in the rest position throughout the operation.

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required prior to a disconnection of the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Disconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries(depending on equipment).

Disconnect the connector of the brake lamp switch (1)  (at "d").

Rotate the brake lamp switch (1) a quarter turn anti-clockwise to unlock it.

Remove the stoplamp switch ( 1).

2.2. Refitting

(1) Brake lamp switch .

"a" Locking key.

"c" Thrust pad .

CAUTION : Before refitting the brake lamp switch (1), press the brake pedal 10 times, to ensure that there is no vacuum reserve in the brake servo.

CAUTION : Check that the brake pedal is in the rest position throughout the operation . Do not support the brake pedal while fitting the brake lamp switch (1), risk of incorrect setting.

Check that the locking key "a" extends from the brake lamp switch (1) centring lug.

Place the brake switch (1) in its push bar bracket "c", pressing the brake pedal.

Turn the brake lamp switch (1) one quarter of a turn clockwise to the stop.

N.B. : Adjustment of the brake lamp switch (1) is automatic once it is locked.

Reconnect the connector  (at "d").

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required after reconnecting the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Reconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries(depending on equipment).

Switch on the ignition.

Check that the brake lamps come on.
