Peugeot 308: Precautions to be taken : automatic gearbox

1. Towing

When towing vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox, transport the vehicle on a platform or tow it with the front wheels lifted.

When the engine is switched off, the lubrication of the gearbox is no longer guaranteed and towing may destroy the automatic gearbox.

2. Driving

N.B. : Never coast with the ignition switched off ; Automatic gearbox lubrication only occurs when the engine is running.

Never push the vehicle in an attempt to start it  (impossible with an automatic gearbox).

3. Repairs to the electrical components

Do not disconnect :

• The battery with the engine running
• The ECU with ignition on

Before re-connecting a connector, check :

• The condition of the various contacts (distortion, corrosion ...)
• The presence and condition of the connector locking mechanism

During electrical checks :

• The battery must be fully charged
• Never use a voltage source greater than 16 V
• Never use a test lamp

4. Repairs to the mechanical components

Never place the gearbox on the ground without suitable protection.

Do not use the unions as handles to move the gearbox.

It is essential to fit the converter support tool when the gearbox is removed.

It is essential to use the centring pins to couple the gearbox on the engine.

Remove the converter support tool immediately before coupling the gearbox on the engine.
