2. Tooling

3. Preliminary operations
Place the vehicle on a 2-post lift.
Remove :

4.1. Steering ball joint
Unscrew :
Uncouple the steering ball-joint (3) ; Using the tool [0709 / CH-161-B].
Remove the steering ball joint nut (1).
N.B. : Count the number of turns for removing the steering ball joint (3) so as to be able to pre-adjust the tracking.
Remove :
4.2. Steering rod
Unclip the clip (4) ; Using a thin screwdriver.
Remove :
CAUTION : The tool [0721-B / CH-52289] must be put in place on the teeth of the steering mechanism.
N.B. : For the vehicles fitted with dual-pinion steering, the tool [0721-B / CH-52289] must be positioned on the rack on the same side as the steering rod to be replaced.
N.B. : For the vehicles fitted with single-pinion steering, the tool [0721-B / CH-52289] must be positioned on the driver’s side.
N.B. : The tool [0721-B / CH-52289] avoids damaging the steering mechanism when slackening-tightening the steering track rod.
Position the tool [0721-B / CH-52289] on the rack teeth so that its tilt bearings come into contact with the suspension arm .
Pre-tighten the 4 bolts (In "a").
Bring the 2 tilt bearings into contact with the suspension arm (In "b").
Position the tool as close as possible to the steering ball-joint (In the direction of the arrow ).
Tighten the 4 bolts (In "a").
Put the tool [0721-AY / CH-6247] in place on the steering tie rod .
Remove the steering track rod ; Using the tool [0721-AY / CH-6247].
5. Refitting
CAUTION : Observe the tightening torques.

Tightening torques :
5.1. Steering rod
Refit the steering track rod ; Using the tool [0721-AY / CH-6247].
Remove :
Refit :
5.2. Steering ball joint
Refit the steering rod nut (2) (without tightening).
N.B. : Position the steering ball joint and perform the same number of turns as when you removed it.
Refit :
Tighten the steering rod nut (2).
6. Additional operations
Refit :
Adjust the suspension geometry.
