Peugeot 308: Load : 48 V traction battery

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

ESSENTIAL : All personnel carrying out work on a vehicle fitted with traction batteries must have received specific electric vehicle training and be authorised to work on these vehicles (observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

1. Tooling

N.B. : If starting is not possible or the vehicle has been parked for a long time, the 48 V traction battery may require charging.

CAUTION : Do not charge the 48 V traction battery directly. The 48 V traction battery is charged by means of the ancillaries battery and the direct voltage transformer.

CAUTION : Only use a 12 V battery charger capable of maintaining a voltage of 13,5 V and a current between 40 and 50 A (approximately 600 W). Do not use a 24 V battery charger.

CAUTION : Do not use a booster, risk of destruction of the equipment.

2. Location of the ancillaries battery

Vehicles : CITROËN .

PEUGEOT vehicles .

DS vehicles .

OPEL/VAUXHALL vehicles .

3. Filling procedure

CAUTION : The 48 V traction battery can only be charged with an ancillaries battery charger plugged into the mains supply ; Do not use a booster, risk of destruction of the equipment.

CAUTION : When recharging the ancillaries battery, check that the clamps are not in contact with the engine management ECU ; Risk of damage to the engine management ECU.

N.B. : No need to disconnect and remove the ancillaries battery.

N.B. : Observe the instructions for use of the 12 V battery charger.

Switch off the ignition.

Switch off all the electrical consumers (Audio system , Illumination, Wipers).

CAUTION : Observe the order of connection of the 12 V battery charger cables on the ancillaries battery terminals.

Switch off the 12 V battery charger (3) before connecting the charging cables to the ancillaries battery.

Connect the charging cables in the following order (without disconnecting the cables from the terminals) :

  • The red cable (1) on terminal "+" of the ancillaries battery
  • The black cable (2) on the remote earth point on the vehicle

Open the door on the driver’s side to trigger the ECUs or switch on the ignition ;Do not press the brake pedal.

N.B. : Charging of the 48 V traction battery starts automatically after 1 minute at a voltage of 13,5 V.

The hybrid drive train supervisor ECU automatically stops the charging when the voltage of the 48 V traction battery is sufficient.

Switch off the 12 V battery charger (3) before disconnecting the charging cables from the ancillaries battery .

Disconnect the charging cables in the following order :

  • The red cable (1) on terminal "+" of the ancillaries battery
  • The black cable (2) on the remote earth point on the vehicle

Switch the ignition on and start the vehicle..

Allow the engine to idle for approximately 30 minutes to complete the charging of the 48 V traction battery to a sufficient level.

4. Disconnection and reconnection of the ancillaries battery

N.B. : If the vehicle is being parked for a long time, disconnect the ancillaries battery in order to maintain the correct voltage in the 48 V traction battery and ensure that the vehicle starts.

Before disconnecting the ancillaries battery :

  • Close all of the accesses
  • Switch off all the electrical consumers (Audio system , Illumination, Wipers)
  • Switch off the ignition and wait ‎4 minutes
  • Disconnect the positive terminal of the ancillaries battery
