Peugeot 308: Removing - refitting : Cylinder head (on the vehicle)

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

ESSENTIAL : All personnel carrying out work on a vehicle fitted with traction batteries must have received specific electric vehicle training and be authorised to work on these vehicles(observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

1. Replacement of parts in all cases

2. Tooling

N.B. : Use the products recommended by the manufacturer .

Equipment :

• Jack
• Soft block
• Measurement template
• Set of shims

(*) Use standard workshop equipment if the special too is not available

3. Preliminary operations

Place the vehicle on a 2-post lift.

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required prior to a disconnection of the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Disconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries (depending on equipment).

Drain the hybrid drive train cooling circuit .

ESSENTIAL : Before carrying out any work on the exhaust line, wait for it to cool down.

CAUTION : Support the engine using a jack and a soft block (Under the sump or the crankcase).

Immobilise the engine .

Remove :

• The timing chain
• The camshaft carrier
• The coolant outlet housing

4. Removing

Unclip the electrical harness (at "a").

Remove :

• The 2 bolts (2)
• The oil gauge well (1) (together with its seals)

CAUTION : Mark the locations of the cam followers.

Remove the roller valve rockers (3).

Remove :

• The 11 cylinder head bolts (5) ; Using the tool [0109-4A]
• The cylinder head (4)
• The cylinder head gasket (4)

5. Refitting

CAUTION : Always replace all removed seals.

N.B. : Clean the joint faces of the cylinder head and of the cylinder block using an approved product .

Check the flatness of the cylinder head joint face ; Using a ruler and a set of feeler gauges.

CAUTION : Observe the tightening torques.

Tightening torques :

• Engine
• Exhaust line

N.B. : Refit the cylinder head bolts previously coated with grease on the threads and under the bolt heads(index "G10") .

CAUTION : The joint faces should not show any traces of impacts or scratches.

Check that the centring pins are present (at "b").

Tighten the bearing carrier screws in the order indicated .

Refit :

• The new cylinder head gasket
• The cylinder head (4)
• The 11 new bolts (5) ; Using the tool [0109-4A]

CAUTION : Lubricate the heads of the push rods (6) ; With engine oil (Type ATP).

CAUTION : Oil the valve stems ; With engine oil (Type ATP) (at "c").

Check the presence of the clips (7) on the roller rockers (3).

CAUTION : The clip (7) must not be distorted in any circumstances : Risk of not keeping the cam followers (3) in relation to the hydraulic tappets (6).

N.B. : Lubricate the roller cam followers (3).

Refit :

• The roller valve rockers (3) fitted with their clips (7)
• The oil gauge well (1) (With new seals)
• The 2 bolts (2)

Clip the electrical harness (at "a").

6. Additional operations

Refit :

• The camshaft carrier
• The timing chain
• The coolant outlet housing

Remove the roller jack and the soft block (Under the sump or the crankcase).

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required after reconnecting the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Reconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries (depending on equipment).

Fill and bleed the hybrid drive train cooling circuit .

Return the vehicle to its wheels.
