Peugeot 308: Dismantling : Engine top

ESSENTIAL : Follow the safety instructions .

CAUTION : This procedure is intended for the replacement of faulty internal components of the cylinder head. If the cylinder head is damaged, replace it with a new cylinder head.

1. Tooling

Workshop equipment :

• Valve spring compressor (Type U.43 LA)
• Cylinder head support (Type U.43)

2. Preliminary operations

Place the engine on a stand.

Remove the cylinder head .

3. Stripping the cylinder head

3.1. Hydraulic tappets

Remove the hydraulic cam followers (1).

3.2. Valves

CAUTION : Mark the location of the intake and outlet valves before removal.

Place the tool [SP18-380 / EN-6086] on the upper cup (2).

Compress the valve springs ; Using the support of the cylinder head, the valve spring compressor and the tool [SP18-380 / EN-6086].

Remove :

• The valve half-cones (3)
• The upper cup (2)
• The valve springs
• The valves

Remove the valve stem seals (4) ; Using the tool [0170-A / EN-840].
