Peugeot 308: Removing - refitting : Front suspension strut

ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations .

ESSENTIAL : All personnel carrying out work on a vehicle fitted with traction batteries must have received specific electric vehicle training and be authorised to work on these vehicles (observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

1. Parts which must always be replaced

Nut (Hub carrier ball joint) 1

2. Tooling

Tool Reference Description

[6310-T1][CH-52291] Hub immobilising tool

[0709] Ball joint extractor

[CH-161-B]

[0622] Hub carrier ball joint uncoupling lever

[0925][CH-52540] Strut upper centring device

3. Preliminary operations

Place the vehicle on a 2-post lift.

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required prior to a disconnection of the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Disconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries (depending on equipment).

Remove :

  • The front wheel bolts
  • The front wheel
  • The windscreen wiper arms
  • The scuttle panel

4. Removing

N.B. : Symmetrical operations (right and left sides).

CAUTION : Do not damage the brake hoses.

N.B. : Do not open the braking circuit on the brake caliper.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION DRIVE TRAIN OR PHEV DRIVE TRAIN OR ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN OR MHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Remove the front brake caliper   .

CAUTION : Do not use hang the front brake caliper ‎ by the brake hose ‎.

Move aside the front brake caliper ‎ and secure it to the bodywork.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION DRIVE TRAIN OR PHEV DRIVE TRAIN OR ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN OR MHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Remove the front brake disc .

Disconnect the connector of the wheel speed sensor (at "a").

Remove the bolts (1).

Move aside the electrical harness support (2).

In the event of re-use of parts : Coat generously with graphite grease the thread of the driveshaft and between the lugs of the driveshaft nut, to avoid destroying the thread of the driveshaft during the driveshaft nut removal operation.

Use tool [6310-T1 / CH-52291] to prevent the hub from turning.

Slacken then remove the drive shaft nut (3).

Remove the nut (4).

Uncouple the steering ball-joint (5) ; Using the tool [0709], [CH-161-B].

CAUTION : Risk of damage to the front body height sensor (depending on equipment).

INTERNAL COMBUSTION DRIVE TRAIN OR PHEV DRIVE TRAIN OR MHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Remove the front body height sensor .

ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN

Remove the front body height sensor .

Remove the nut (6).

Move the front anti-roll bar rod (7) aside.

Remove the nut (8).

CAUTION : Take care not to damage the lower arm ball joint boot .

CAUTION : When detaching the hub carrier, support the drive shaft in the differential.

Disconnect the ball joint of the front suspension arm (9) ; Using the tool [0622].

Detach the hub carrier from the drive shaft.

Remove the plug (10) (depending on equipment).

Remove :

  • The bolts (11)
  • The front suspension strut

5. Refitting

N.B. : Symmetrical operations.

CAUTION : If the driveshaft is reused, clean the driveshaft thread carefully ; Spray brake cleaner onto a clean, lint-free cloth.

CAUTION : Do not use a pneumatic gun during the driveshaft nut removal and refitting operations (Damage to the driveshaft thread).

CAUTION : Observe the tightening torques.

Tightening torques :

  • Front suspension
  • Steering
  • Driveshaft
  • Braking system
  • Wheels

PHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Tightening torques :

  • Front suspension
  • Steering
  • Driveshaft
  • Braking system
  • Wheels

ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN

Tightening torques :

  • Front suspension
  • Steering
  • Driveshaft
  • Braking system
  • Wheels

MHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Tightening torques :

  • Front suspension
  • Steering
  • Driveshaft
  • Braking system
  • Wheels

Engage the front strut ‎ in the front wheel arch ‎.

Refit the front suspension strut ; Using the tool [0925 / CH-52540].

Put the new bolts (11) in place (without tightening).

Tighten the bolts (11).

Refit the plug (10) (depending on equipment).

Engage :

  • The pivot on the driveshaft
  • The suspension lower arm ball joint (9) in the pivot

Refit :

  • The new nut (8)
  • The anti-roll bar rod (7)
  • The new nut (6)
  • The steering ball joint (5)
  • The new nut (4)
  • The new driveshaft nut (3) ; Using the tool [6310-T1]
  • The electrical harness support (2)
  • The bolts (1)

Reconnect the front wheel speed sensor ‎ connector (at "a").

INTERNAL COMBUSTION DRIVE TRAIN OR PHEV DRIVE TRAIN OR MHEV DRIVE TRAIN

Refit :

  • The front body height sensor
  • The front brake disc
  • The front brake caliper

ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN

Refit :

  • The front body height sensor
  • The front brake disc
  • The front brake caliper

6. Additional operations

Refit :

  • The scuttle panel
  • The windscreen wiper arms
  • The front wheel
  • The vehicle to its wheels

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required after reconnecting the ancillaries battery .

CAUTION : In the case of a vehicle with 2 batteries, carry out the specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries.

Reconnect the ancillaries battery or batteries (depending on equipment).
